[MasudaxTegoshi] Live Confession
I suck at titles. Admitted. (Oh my, this fic is actually - happy! Sarcastic...but light! Now be proud of me.)
Title: Live Confession
Pairing: Masuda x Tegoshi
Rating: G
Disclaimer: No, not even in my dreams could I own them ;__;
Tegoshi walked out of the high-profile party, slightly dizzy by all the lights and glam, and was instantly surrounded by the paparazzi (fangirls too). Japanese reporters weren't as crazy and certainly not as curious as their western counterparts, but they were, after all, of the same breed. Journalism was no different anywhere.
He was asked questions, of course, about the party, how was it; how did he feel - the one question reporters always asked -, does he enjoy insert-name-here's company? Yes, enter relationship questions. People, mostly insane fangirls who wanted to marry him, gossiped and linked him with anyone from ayaka to Leah Dizon to even those crazy girls from Hello! Project (the new Chinese ones from 'Morning Musume' were the hot favourites currently). And then came the spreading of stories, most of them idiotic, like the one where he was supposedly seen hugging Aya Kamiki. Ridiculous, so he ignored them all. Johnny did the denying.
"Our sources say that you are currently going out with Ai Otsuka. Comment." Ew, do they even know how much older she is, he thought. He ignored the guy, turned away, and was instantly surrounded by more.
"You were seen shopping with Kishimoto Hayami on..."
"Rumours say that Uno Misako gave you honmei chocolate..."
"Koda Kumi flirted with you on television..."
"Korean singer Younha was heard saying that..."
"Hinouchi Emi and you..."
"It is believed that Takei Shiori is interested in you...”
"Do you like YUI?"
This was it. "Shut up!" Everybody shut up almost immediately, the silence was sudden. "The only person I like is Massu-"
No one had interrupted him, but he quickly realized what he had been going to say. Or said. The reporters were staring at him, the silence was quite deafening. One of them finally managed to stutter, "You mean Masuda Takahisa?"
Tegoshi stood speechless, not knowing quite what to say. He finally turned away, and was instantly barraged by questions and a lot of noise.
"Do you accept that you like Masuda?"
"Are you dating?"
"Does Johnny know? Is this the reason TegoMasu was formed?"
"Since when...?"
Please shut up, he silently wished, although he knew they would not. It was his fault, of course, but the reporters were partly to blame too. But now it was done, and he was going to be fried. Deep fried. Johnny was probably going to kick him out (and get publicity managers for all the Johnny seniors now), he would have to say good bye to his job, his family would be displeased and well - he had quite advertised that he wasn't straight. It wasn't going to be easy. Also, Masuda... he shuddered slightly.
He hoped some miracle would happen, and all the reporters would somehow have their memories erased.
Finally managing to escape, he headed straight away for home. His mother welcomed him with a silent nod, and walked back to where she had been. Seated in front of the TV. With the hourly entertainment show proclaiming that "Tegoshi Yuya has admitted that he is in love with Masuda Takahisa...” There was live footage too of him saying those doomed words. Repeated a few times more - for effect - by the channel.
Crap. He looked at his mother; his mother looked back at him. No words were exchanged, Tegoshi retreating to his bed room.
He contemplated the various ways by which he could somehow be swallowed by the ground. Death surely had to be near.
Tomorrow came unwillingly, and as Tegoshi looked up at the clock, he wondered whether he could skip practice for the day. His phone started ringing almost suddenly. He recognized the tune immediately: the karaoke version of 'Kissu...’ Without another thought, he rejected the call. Glancing at the call history almost scared him. Masuda had called 7 times, Ryo and Koyama had called thrice, Yamapi had tried twice and even Shige had given him a call.
He was thankful Johnny hadn't called him yet.
Tegoshi pushed open the door of the JE office, cringing slightly as he felt the fangirls' eyes piercing his back, camping persistently outside the office. Some were screaming, others were cheering. No one was silent. He wondered how many of them were pleased by the recent development and deducing from the number of fangirls there - well, er, there were quite a few of them.
He slowly entered the building, and the daily chatter stopped almost immediately. People were staring; some stretched their heads just to get a glimpse of him. He smiled half-heartedly, and courageously set off for his destination.
Only to be stopped by a woman. "Ah, Mr. Tegoshi. Good Morning. As Ms. Kitagawa is away, Mr. Kitagawa would like to meet you."
Mr. Kitagawa. Johnny Kitagawa. The actual director of Johnny's Entertainment (Mary and Julia were only puppets, the rumor said so) wanted to meet him in his office. If he wanted to meet Tegoshi... he felt tears forming in his eyes, and quickly wiped them away. Be brave, Yuya, he told himself. You can do it.
Or maybe you already did it. He was already cursing the entire world as he entered the plush, magnificent, and fabulously awesome office. Luxury - which he would have to say good bye to quite soon.
Johnny was sitting on his chair, the back facing him. Like in those English movies with secret agents and conspiracies and queens and presidents and prime ministers. "Mr. Tegoshi, please take a seat."
Tegoshi slowly sat, and Johnny instantly wheeled around - he had been watching too many movies lately - facing Tegoshi with a serious look plastered on. This was do or die.
"Apparently, you told the reporters yesterday that you are interested in Mr. Masuda?" Without waiting for an affirmation, he continued. "Mr. Tegoshi, I'd like to advise you-" Here he stopped for a moment, trying to find the right words. "Discretion is an important thing in the entertainment business. Here at Johnny's, we train young boys and give them a platform to excel in the music industry. And as they are keen, um, targets of young girls, we advertise them as single. So we do expect them to maintain just a little bit of secrecy relating to their relationships, even though usually it does leak out eventually."
He paused for a long, long moment. Tegoshi counted the seconds. "Yours, Mr. Tegoshi, is an entirely different case. Your sexual preferences are - well," He squirmed for a moment. Tegoshi faintly remembered the cases against Johnny. "It's caused quite a sensation in media, particularly because you are a Johnny, and because of the unprepared way you said it." Johnny even managed a chuckle. There was a pause once more.
"Now we somehow have to deny it. But this is a humongous task, and the way you said it did make a difference. According to the media at least, it seems quite real. And because this company is known for, well...boy-to-boy interaction - there have been quite many photo shoots with you and Mr. Masuda - it makes it all the more interesting. This might result in, you know, controversies, and I think it might even affect sales."
Johnny actually had thought all about it. "Fangirls would be quite pleased, yes, but the more conservative ones might think twice. Also, boys wouldn't be quite eager to join this agency anymore."
In his quiet way, Johnny seemed to be rubbing it in that Tegoshi had probably destroyed the company. Tegoshi felt like a little child scolded by a father for breaking something. Oh wait. It was his fault.
"Mr. Kitagawa, I'm quite sorry-"
"Mr. Tegoshi, please do not panic. I am quite, quite sure that we can manage this little incident. I have quite a good plan, actually." Tegoshi shuddered. What was the plan? It sounded quite sinister. But Johnny didn't seem to want to discuss it. "I just want you to remember, and be a little cautious in the future. My plan may work, but rumours will still linger, I can assure you. Reporters might be quite annoying, but you need to learn how to deal with them."
Okay, so everything was all right. Tegoshi gave a small sigh of relief.
Of course Johnny had to burst his bubble. “As for your band members," Johnny looked at Tegoshi. Oh no, he had totally forgotten about Masuda! He had embarrassed Masuda live, and Masuda was probably disgusted by him. He wouldn't want to see him ever again.
"Can I-?"
"They'll probably understand." And with that, the meeting was over.
Tegoshi didn't quite understand anything, but yes, he hadn't been asked to leave Johnny & Associates Entertainment company. He was still a member of NewS. He was still a part of TegoMasu.
TegoMasu. Oh damn.
The walk to the NewS practice room was indefinitely long, but he seemed to reach it almost immediately. Looking both ways and taking a deep breath, he stepped in. Ryo was sitting on a chair, loudly singing his solo parts (there were many) from their new song to himself. He saw Tegoshi, and immediately straightened up.
"Good Morning."
"Good Morning."
Awkward, awkward, awkward. Tegoshi was going to die. He could see it. Ryo looked at him, then looked at his shoes and glared at them, probably wishing they could get tied by themselves. Tegoshi sat on another chair and studied his nails carefully.
Ryo broke the silence almost suddenly. "It was quite a surprise you know. But yeah, I don't think anyone will mind."
Tegoshi glanced at Ryo, a look of gratefulness on his face. He was actually beaming.
"But I didn't, well, mean to say it."
Ryo laughed. "TegoMasu! It was a bit obvious really. I'm pretty sure Masuda-" He stopped short, and Tegoshi followed his gaze to the door. Masuda was leaning by the door, a half-smile on his face.
"Good Morning!" He was actually cheerful.
"Good Morning." Ryo returned the greeting, and got up. "I sort of remembered something, uh - excuse me," He quickly made his exit. Tegoshi watched it all in growing horror. Please don't leave me, he silently cried. But it was of no use. Ryo waved to Tegoshi, and quickly disappeared. Leaving him to his fate.
Steadfastly ignoring Masuda, he turned back to his nails and stared at the small speck of dirt lodged in. Apparently, Masuda didn't care, as he put his bag down and sat beside Tegoshi, looking at watch.
"Shige and Koyama are late!" He didn't really pay attention to the absence of a reply. "I met Yamapi on the way, he said something about Johnny wanting to meet him," He grinned to himself. "I wonder-"
Oh, you don't have to wonder why, Tegoshi wryly thought to himself. He sensed Masuda turning to look at him, and became more self-conscious, crossing his fingers and hoping that the ground would swallow him up right then. The ground didn't do so, and Masuda was looking at him.
He was actually smiling, Tegoshi saw from the corner of his eyes in disbelief. What? Why? This was totally unnatural. Or maybe - wait? Tegoshi thought for a long moment, trying to put down the idea. Masuda could never be in love with him. The chances were a meager 5%. Maybe he was just trying to intimidate Tegoshi into breaking down and plan of running away from Japan? If so - he sure was doing a good job.
But Masuda had plans himself. He slowly, quite slowly, lifted his hand and placed it on the hand that Tegoshi had been looking at so studiously.
Tegoshi knew he was hallucinating. Or was this a dream? If it was, it was really cheesy. Damn it, Johnny wasn't the only one watching too many movies lately.
"I like you too." Okay, this is definitely a dream, he told himself. Yet Masuda's hand felt quite warm, and if he wasn't mistaken, the pressure had increased too.
Um. Maybe this wasn't a dream after all.
Breath in, breath out, he repeatedly told himself, trying to replace the look of shock on his face with indifference. It didn't exactly work, though, because Masuda laughed.
"I was a bit surprised, of course, but glad to know that you return my feelings." He hadn't considered for a moment that it might be a mistake? Arrogant guy, Tegoshi huffed.
"But well, the media can't really consider it as a homosexual relationship. Because you are totally a girl-"
"Hey!" This is it, Tegoshi thought angrily, this guy is so arrogant! "As if you could call yourself a man after joining this agency."
"Objection! I do look like a man, unlike you!"
"You're just jealous of my cuteness," Hah, Masuda couldn't deny that.
Masuda just grinned instead. "Why, of course," Tegoshi was slightly confused. But he didn't have time to think, because Masuda was close to him. Really, really close. And he had this wide grin on his face too, just adorable to resist. Tegoshi gulped. And closed his eyes.
*
"A few days ago, Tegoshi Yuya of Japanese band NewS was reported saying that he had an interest in a certain 'Massu'. A leak from a Johnny source identifies this Massu as Ms. Matsuraa Aya, who reportedly met Tegoshi during the recording of a television show. Although the difference in age and a suspicion that the news might be faked, this is nothing new for the entertainment scene-"
Tegoshi felt his mother's eyes rest on him. He rolled his eyes (are Johnny's plans always this ridiculous?) and went back to his room.
----------------------------------------
This story is totally idiotic. But hey - it's 2,000+ words! YES :D (And yes, I know Japanese media isn't really as stupid as I've portrayed it). This was actually going to be YUIXTegoshi yes I am strange but I controlled the urge... although I still can't remember her real name. Sorry 3:
